Restructuring legacy "flat" URL footprints into a high-performance Region → State → City directory structure.
The objective was to restructure a legacy geographic footprint that utilized a flat, keyword-redundant URL layout. This initiative was designed to maximize local organic keyword visibility and streamline crawler efficiency without compromising Managed Tech's premium B2B design aesthetic.
I replaced the thin legacy regional content with a comprehensive Service Hub. This overhaul included updating all on-page SEO elements—optimizing H1/H2 hierarchies and Meta titles to establish authority for the entire New England service area.
To maximize authority flow, I implemented a strategic internal linking grid using descriptive, region-specific anchor text. This ensured that the primary directory served as a high-equity jumping-off point for both users and search engine bots.
To eliminate "orphan" city pages, I engineered dedicated localized content blocks for every state-level parent page. These sections act as internal linking bridges, distributing equity from the state directory down to specific municipalities.
Managed IT Services & IT Support in Massachusetts
Interactive directory featuring: Boston, Worcester, Springfield, and Cambridge.
Uses "Managed IT Services in [City]" anchor text to map directly to Tier-3 child pages.
Faced with CMS constraints that locked automated breadcrumbs behind a premium license upgrade, I engineered a manual page-builder workaround. By constructing text-based breadcrumb paths directly within the templates, I provided search bots and users with critical navigation context at zero additional software cost.
| Legacy Flat Path (Old) | Nested Silo Path (New) | Justification |
|---|---|---|
| /location/boston-managed-it-services/ | /location/massachusetts/boston/ | Nests under state parent; drops redundant trailing keywords. |
| /location/nashua-nh-managed-it-services/ | /location/new-hampshire/nashua/ | Nests under NH; drops keywords and state abbreviation. |
| /location/portland-me-managed-it-services/ | /location/maine/portland/ | Nests under ME; establishes clean geographic hierarchy. |
